ASHLAND --- Ashland, Oregon, welcomes the 2nd annual Ashland Independent Film Festival, opening April 3-7, 2003, at the Varsity Theatre. The Festival will offer an opening night film and reception, five screens for viewing 67 films, a filmmakers' lounge, press breakfast, and a closing night party featuring the awards ceremony.

"We are looking forward to putting on a gala event to make Ashland proud, to be another arrow in our cultural quiver," says Ron Hulteen, Festival Administrator. "We are planning a diverse program of feature films, shorts, documentaries, seminars, workshops, other special events for all age groups - and to engage our young people in the exciting potential of the powerful artistic medium of filmmaking."

The Festival is open to professional, non-professional, and student American independent filmmakers working in all genres and themes. Awards will be presented for selected films in the following categories: Best Independent Film (feature & short), the Gerald Hirschfeld, A.S.C. Cinematography Award (feature & short), Best Acting Ensemble, Best Documentary, and Best Student Film.
