Faculty and Student Concerts Highlight Music Institute for the Development of Personal Style


 

A gala faculty concert, reception and silent auction will open the tenth annual Music Institute for the Development of Personal Style in memory of Jascha Heifetz at 8:00 pm, Sunday, June 22, at the Center Stage Theatre at Southern Oregon University. Tickets are $15 and $7.50.

Sherry Kloss, Jeremy Cohen, and Lila Sklar, violin and Arkadi Serper, piano, will perform music of Brahms, transcriptions of Jascha Heifetz, Middle Eastern improvisation, and Jazzin’ It Up....By Three, an original violin and piano jazz composition by Jeremy Cohen. The silent auction and dessert and wine reception will follow the gala faculty concert.

The Institute is founded and directed Sherry Kloss, a longtime associate of Jascha Heifetz. Presented by SOU Extended Campus Programs, the Institute provides eight days of intense study and imaginative coaching for talented violin and piano students from the United States and abroad. Interested observers may attend morning and afternoon coaching sessions for $6 per session.

Selected institute participants will present a free recital on Tuesday, June 24 at Noon at the SOU Center Stage Theatre. Sunday, June 29 at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm participants present free closing concerts at the SOU Center Stage Theatre, performing sonatas of Beethoven, Debussy, Franck, Grieg, Handel, Mozart and Schubert and as well as Heifetz transcriptions.
